FALL MATINEE
10th Anniversary Season
Sunday, October 14, 2012 | 4:00 p.m.
at UNCW Kenan Auditorium

On Sunday afternoon, October 14th, at 4:00 p.m. the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra celebrates its 10th Anniversary Season at Kenan Auditorium.

Youth Orchestra conductor Steven Errante has planned a program fitting the occasion, starting with Rimsky-Korsakov's famous "Procession of the Nobles from Mlada."

"The concert is a showcase for the young musicians' ability to play a wide range of orchestral styles, from Schubert's brooding 'Unfinished' Symphony to the exciting John Williams score for the 'Star Wars' series," Errante notes, adding "and Timothy Mahr's 'Carolina Folk Dream' is a distinctive new orchestral work that gives an orchestral twist to simple folk-songs imagined by the composer as he walked his young daughter to pre-school."

Sharing the stage on the program is the Wilmington Symphony Junior Strings, directed by Jane Tierney.  The Junior Strings will perform Concerto for Two Guitars, The Far Away Place, and a delightful arrangement of The Bringer of Joy from Gustav Holst's "The Planets."
