fountains of rome

fountains of romeThe Wilmington Symphony Orchestra presents The Fountains of Rome, on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. in Kenan Auditorium, featuring oboe soloist, Rebecka Rose. The season finale showcases Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 (think of the opening scene from the Academy Award winning film Amadeus), Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů’s Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra with its wistful melodies and vivid orchestral colors, and Ottorino Respighi’s brilliant and majestic The Fountains of Rome.

Program Notes HERE.

Ms. Rose holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Oboe Performance from Pensacola Christian College, and has performed with the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, VA and the Long Bay Symphony, SC. In addition, she has performed as a freelance oboist in the northern Virginia/DC area and across the eastern North Carolina area. During her summers, Ms. Rose teaches at the Rappahannock Summer Music Camp in Spotsylvania, VA where she teaches oboe workshops, double reed chamber music, oboe reed making, music theory, and performs in the faculty woodwind quintet.

Rebecka Rose says of this performance opportunity, “Performing Martinů with a full orchestra is a rare and thrilling opportunity for an oboist. I am tremendously grateful to Dr. Errante and the members of the Wilmington Symphony for this extraordinary chance of a lifetime. I am proud to perform under a conductor of such high caliber and amongst this accomplished group of musicians.”

Conductor Steven Errante says, “The Fountains of Rome depicts four famous fountains in the Eternal City, each at a different time of day. So the colorful orchestral tour begins quietly at dawn, takes us through the brilliance of mid-day and ends serenely at sunset.”

Tickets are $25-27 for adults, and just $6 for students!
